Container grown plants can be planted at any time of the year provided the ground is not frozen or waterlogged.

 

 

Buy from a reputable Garden Centre, choosing plants that:

» Look nursery fresh and healthy
» Are nice and bushy
» Cover the pot

Study the labels ensuring you select varieties which flower at your required time of year - picture labels also give an accurate guide to flower colour.

Dec-May Winter-flowering varieties such as Erica Carnea and Erica Darleyensis give fabulous displays of colour from deep red to white plus bronze to golden foliage
Mar-May Varieties of Calluna provide 'Spring Tips' which make the plant look as thought it is on fire
Jun-Sep Scottish Bell Heather, Erica Cinerea, provides a wonderful range of colour from white to beetroot red plus golden foliage
Aug-Oct Calluna varieties give a stunning range of colour with many double-flowered varieties
